May bago na namang segment ang aking blog. At yan ang MassComm Adventures kung saan isha-share ko sa inyo ang latest events sa aking Mass Comm Life! At ito na nga yon!
Last Thursday, June 27, 2013, I was chosen to be one of the attendees from our school sa Jaime V. Ongpin Journalism Seminar and Media Literacy Workshop that happened sa AIM Conference Center in Makati. The seminar was organized by the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility.

There were two parts of the program. Noong umaga was the Jaime V. Ongpin Journalism Seminar. In this part of program, we discussed the News Media Coverage of the Campaign and Elections. Panel Discussion siya. And our panel consisted of: Miss Lynda Jumilla-Abalos and Mr. Henry Omaga Diaz of ABS-CBN, Mr. Deo Almazan Bugaoisan of GMA Network, Miss Pia Hontiveros-Pagkalinawan of SOLARtv, Mis Malou Mangahas of Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism, Miss Raissa Robles of raissarobles.com and Mr. Ryan D. Miss Melinda Quintos De Jesus
facilitating the Media Literacy workshop |
Iba-ibang questions ang tinanong ng facilitator na si Miss Melinda Quintos De Jesus who is also the Executive Director of CMFR. Una diyan ang ano ang mga gustong cino-cover nilang mga news. Miss Lynda Jumilla-Abalos said na ang whole package ng elections ang mga gusto niyang cinocover. The following were also tackled: the Voters' Needs, the Coverage and the reports of the election, the Automation at paano matutulungan ng media na magimprove ang elections. Marami akong quotable quotes sa kanila. Mr. Deo Bugaoisan said that what lacks is the Voters' Education while si Miss Pia Hontiveros naman, "Make it (the count of the votes) transparent."
The second part naman was about Understanding the Media. Miss Melinda facilitated again this part and
here, it was explained to us what Media Literacy is, ang Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press, and more responsible journalism. We were also given two cases to study if tama ba ang nagawang pagrereport ng media sa mga balitang ito: Shamcey Supsup's third runner-up finish sa Binibining Pilipinas 2011 and the suicide of the UP Student Kristel Tejada.

Ate Roxanne and Ate Troyka
listening intently to the lecture |
Napakadami kong natutunan sa event and madami rin akong na-realize. Isa sa mga learnings ko is that we should know how to use our power as media practitioners (Papunta naman ako kaya pinepersonalize ko...well I hope. Haha.) dahil madami tayong naiimpluwensiyahang mga tao. And my realization? That I am not fit talaga maging journalist. Hahaha. Sa Teleserye talaga ako. But I would love to attend more seminars kasi kahit papaano I'm starting to love the News Department. Haha! And isa ko pang realization, kapal ng mukha ko. Hahaha. Dalawang beses ako pumunta sa mic. Yung isa pa, nagpapabasa si Miss Melinda ng something sa presentation niya...no one was racing his/her hand, eh I need na magising dahil inaantok-antok nko. Kaya nagvolunteer ako. Hahaha. Sabi ni Kuya Nathan, brave, young girl daw ako (tama ba?) Hahaha!
Thank you so much Miss Traballo for bringing me in that seminar. And to my schoolmates and future co-workers Ate Roxanne, Ate Flery, Ate Troyka, Kuya Nathan and Macee, Reielle, Trix and Kathleen, thank you din guys kasi ang saya natin!
Looking forward sa next seminar na aattendan ko...meron na pero ssssh muna. :)
