Kwento Mo: The Future of Filmmaking

Haha! And yes, Kwento Mo segment is actually back in celebration of Jimpy TV's first anniversary dahil known naman tayo sa mga interviews (known talaga? Hahaha!).

Anyway, dahil nga in line pa rin ito sa Jimpy TV's anniversary, ang magiging subject ng Kwento Mo segment this week ay about sa pagtupad ng dreams. If you can remember, our 4th episode was about sa pagtupad ng dreams kaya nga "Island of Dreams" ang title. Haha. So for this entry, we will read a "kwento" of my friend who's making a way - a great way - to achieve his dreams. Kaya The Future of Filmmaking ang title is because he dreams of becoming one of the best directors in the industry someday. :)

Anyway, last summer, gumawa siya, along with his friends, ng isang short film (which I happened to watch din naman). Their production is actually called Press Play Productions. Teka teka, bago pa maparami ang sinasabi ko, here is my interview with Jake, kaya naman go read to know more. :)

Jimpy: Hello Jake! Welcome sa blog ko. Haha! So ngayon, kasi this feature sa "Kwento Mo" aims to inspire people by the achievements of my interviewees.  I heard...and I actually saw that you have already directed your first short film if I am not mistaken?  So ever since ba, have you dreamed of becoming a director?
For now, nasa goal ko yung pagiging director, pero feel ko hindi ko pa kaya. I need to practice pa that's why gumawa kami ng short film (Summertime Sadness). And it's a fun experience!

Jimpy: Wow. So ayan, magkuwento ka tungkol sa experience mo about coming up with your short film? What is it all about?
Jake: It's about a guy na maglilipat ng house, then nung nag liligpit siya ng gamit may nakita siyang remembrance ng ex-girlfriend niya. Then naalala niya yung mga good memories nila together. Kaya Summertime Sadness yung title, its a song of Lana Del Rey.

Jimpy: Oh. Well actually napanuod ko nga yung film. Haha. So what actaully made you come up with a short film? Bigla mo na lang naisip? Or is it really part of your plans na talaga that time?
Jake: As I said earlier, summer break namin ginawa yung film. We want to do something productive. Jai (Scriptwriter) pitched her story to me, Then I called Claud (DOP) na may short film na gagawin. Tas ayun nag meeting kaming tatlo to finalize the film for casts, locations, etc. Then I texted my other classmates about the project, game naman sila na sumama. We had one whole day of shoot sa lahat ng scenes tapos in-edit na namin the next day. Nakakapagod din pero worth it naman kasi nag enjoy ako with our production team kasi masaya sila kasama. And I'm very proud sa Press Play Productions.

Jimpy: Aba bongga! So Press Play Productions ang name ng team nyo? That's cute! Haha! Anyway, anong na-feel mo when you saw the output?
Jake: Kinabahan kami kasi parang kulang yung scenes kasi one day lang kami nag shoot. Baka hindi maintindihan ng viewers yung story. Pinapanuod muna namin sa friends and relatives then tinanong namin kung naintindihan nila before namin i-post. Naintindihan naman nila yung story. Siyempre may konting criticisms, and we accepted it wholeheartedly. Then nung napost na namin sa Youtube and Vimeo. Marami namang nagbigay ng positive comments about the film.

Jimpy: Wooow! Congrats! Anyway, so ngayon, itutuloy tuloy mo na yang paggawa ng short films? What are your next plans after that?
Jake: Yes. Hopefully makagawa din ako ng film sa Film Festivals like Cinemalaya and MMFF. But now, we're on pre-production and gagawa nanaman kami ng short film for our final project sa AVP class namin. This coming October siguro matatapos. And sana magustuhan ulit ng mga friends.

Jimpy: Ansabeh ng MMFF! Bongga! Haha! So since Jimpy Loves TV naman ito at gusto mong maging director, if na-achieve mo na ang dreams mo, anong klaseng mga kwento naman ang gusto mong i-direct?
Jake: May dalawang genres akong gustong gawin. Gusto ko ng comedy and drama plus inspirational. Comedy, kasi I'm a happy go lucky person. Gusto ko good vibes lagi. And I enjoy jokes kahit korny, kasi korny din ako minsan. HAHA!

Jimpy: So konting random questions rin. Haha. Sinong actor and actress ang gusto mong makawork in the future. LOCAL lang, maximum of two!
Jake: Jasmine Curtis, kasi I saw her acting sa "Transit" by H. Espia, and sobrang galing, very realistic. She portrayed her role very well, and some of her dialogues are in Hebrew, and that's not easy.

So anyway, if may maibibigay kang pieces of advice sa mga aspiring directors like you, what would it be?
Jake: I can't give a piece of advice to other aspiring directors kasi I haven't done anything big [yet] in the media industry pa, hindi pa naman [ako si] "Direk Jacob Sabuquia". But I can share my principles. Always accept criticisms, kasi ayun ang magpapaganda ng project/film niyo, laging may negative comments, there's no such thing as a perfect movie kasi iba iba naman tayo ng interpretation/perception. Believe in your story, simple or not, it is in your hands and creativity kung paano mo papagandahin. If everything is complicated, simplify. And I know[that] God is with us, and He always guides us in everything we do. I am not the director, but God is.

Jimpy: Woooooooooow. Napahaba talaga ang O ko. Haha!  Wala na akong masabe. Anyway, if you want your crafts to be seen or what if may gustong kumuha sa Press Play Productions, where can we see or contact you?
Jake: You can visit the Press Play Productions Youtube account if you want to watch our first short film entitled Summertime Sadness at this link: http://www.youtube.com/user/prssplyproductions
And if you want to add me on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/jake.sabuquia). Please do follow me also on Twitter and Instagram @jacobsabuquia. Thank you!

Ayan, thank you Jake for being a part of Jimpy Loves TV and Jimpy TV's first year anniversary! Uh-hum! Haha! Mukhang malapit lapit na yon. Hahaha.

Anyway, siyempre pepwede ba namang di namin i-feature yung short film na ginawa ng Press Play Productions? So here it is, Summertime Sadness. :D

I hope you guys enjoy! And as for Jake, goodluck sa pagtupad ng iyong dreams! Hahahaha. Sa next entry, andun yan!]
