Bride for Rent serves as the opening salvo of Star Cinema for the year 2014. This also Kim Chiu and Xian Lim's second movie after the success of Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng Crush Mo last year, and director Mae Czarina Cruz' follow-up after the box-office hit She's The One. When the trailer was first aired last year, I already got excited and I really looked forward to watching this movie. And I guess, the movie did not fail, not only my expectations, but the audience. The movie may be had used a formulaic plot from other movies that we had, but it still offered something new and at the same time, something which can the audience can store in their minds.
On the eve of his 25th birthday, Rocco Espiritu (Xian Lim) spends every cash that he has for an endless drinking party, as he is about to get the trust fund his famous celebrity grandmother Lala (Pilita Corrales) gave him. Unfortunately, when he is about to acquire everything, he learns that there is one condition before getting the fund -- and that is a marriage contract. He needs to get married first before acquiring the money. Meanwhile, Raquelita Dela Cruz a.k.a. Rocky (Kim Chiu) is a bubbly, perky wanna-be actress who is willing to do everything for her family. She constantly goes to auditions that's why she was hired as Rocco's 'bride'.
