Movie Review: It Takes A Man and a Woman
![]() |

Finally. The Third Installment of the Laida and Miggy love story has arrived.
It Takes A Man and a Woman centers on the continuation of Laida and Miggy's love story...which unfortunately turned into a 'hate' relationship after the two broke up. Laida returns to the Philippines after working for a publishing house in New York, and after Flippage - Miggy's publishing company - needs again her services. Laida and Miggy's opinions will always clash, until it gets too personal. And there they discover the feelings they still have for each other.
The movie focused on coping up with break-ups, betrayals and second chances. How they presented the coping ways of break-ups is very realistic, as this happens in real life. And the movie will always make us fall in love again.
Irma Adlawan and Al Tantay reprising their roles as Laida's parents provided the life lessons of the movie, and they even have their own chemistry, I really hope that they will be reunited again in a soap opera or a film. Matet de Leon, Joross Gamboa and Gio Alvarez provided the comic feel of the movie, they are still as hilarious as they were in the previous films. Isabelle Daza playing Miggy's girlfriend Belle is the other girl we can't hate, however, Isabelle must transfer to ABS-CBN and attend acting workshops with Star Magic because she can still improve. She actually improved a lot in this movie from her performance in GMA's 16-week afternoon soap Faithfully.
Sarah Geronimo as the heart-broken Laida portaryed her role very well. Upon seeing all the 3 movies, Sarah and Laida matured together. And the transformation of the old Laida to Laida Magtalas Version 2.0 was believable and properly established. Some can't see the relevance of the wig she is wearing, but I can interpret that this was also part of her coping ways (Break-up gets haircut - Basha of One More Chance, remember?). John Lloyd Cruz as Miggy Montenegro reprises his arrogance, but this time with a heart compared to the heartless "Miggy Montimonyo" of the first installment. And as for them as a loveteam, there is still the chemistry and the magic, most especially in the New York scenes.
The movie indeed is good and the continuity was properly established, however, there was a lapse in time, as the film says that Laida left in Feb 2009, whereas the film You Changed My Life premiered February 25, 2009, with the second film taking place 6 months after the first (which premiered August). Just do the counting. However, this is just my own observation and the time lapse did not actually affect the quality of the movie.
The musical scoring was nostalgic at the same time refreshing. And the turn of events of the story was also nostalgic yet relevant. The ending was a surprise, that I did not even expect it. But it was touching, and made me leave the cinemas in tears of joy. The movie itself is very unpredictable despite being the 3rd installation of Laida-Miggy love stories.
I would love to watch this movie again. Direk Cathy Garcia-Molina will never ever disappoint us with all her movies. :)

Movie Review: Must Be Love
![]() |
Another most-awaited film of 2013 is the launching movie of one of the hottest love teams in Philippine Showbiz - Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla (or KathNiel) - titled "Must Be... Love". The movie is directed by regular MMK director/former headwriter and Princess and I director Dado Lumibao, produced by Star Cinema. The movie was shot in Cebu. The movie also stars John Lapus, Arlene Muhlach, Cacai Bautista and John Estrada, and the movie also introduces Liza Soberano - a member of Star Magic Circle 2013.
The story is about Patricia Espinosa or "Patchot" (Bernardo) and Ivan Martinez (Padilla). Patchot starts falling in love with her bestfriend, but unfortunately, Ivan only sees her as "tropa", as she thinks. And then her cousin, Angel, comes back from the States and meets Ivan, and they instantly fell in love.
The movie itself used an already old formula of Philippine romance movies - girl falling in love with her bestfriend - as seen in the 90s film "Wala Na Bang Pag-ibig" and Star Cinema 2010 Film "Paano Na Kaya" (incidentally, the films also starred the hottest love teams of their times - Angelu De Leon and Bobby Andrews for Wala Na Bang Pag-ibig & Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson for Paano Na Kaya). However, Must Be Love was more of a romantic comedy type, and its twists and turns are quite different from the said movies as well.
The cast portrayed their characters very well. John Estrada's domineering but cool father character fits him, and this character brings him back from his usual comic roles - a far cry from his A Beautiful Affair's Edward. Arlene Muhlach and Cacai Bautista provided the comic feel for the movie. Their storyline as beauticians fighting is relevant to the story as it built Patricia's transformation from a boyish girl to a pretty lady.John Lapus had a change of character this time, playing a former beautician who was broken-hearted after his partner died. His role was the most relevant Liza Soberano as a newbie in this industry has a lot of potential. After this movie and after she was launched as part of the SMC Batch 2013, she will surely get a lot of meatier roles.
The love team of KathNiel proved that they are really the hottest love team of this generation. They surely know how to give "kilig bones" to everyone. The movie has a simple story, but they were able to give justice to their characters. However, I wish that their characters in their next project [TV or Film] will be meatier and more challenging.
The story was really good, however, the ending could have been improved. But the technical aspects of the film were good as well.
Rating: 7.5 :)

Movie Review: A Moment In Time
Sorry. Hahaha.]
Haha. :)
The story of A Moment In Time is about Patrick na isang artist at waiter.
Coco Martin and Julia Montes has a very undeniable chemistry. Bagay sila. They don't look like na malaki ang agwat ng age nila. Coco Martin's Patrick is like the young Daniel. As in. Well, magaling naman kasi talaga si Coco Martin. :) Julia Montes naman is very convincing sa kanyang role. Her role is quite easy to portray pero I don't think may iba pang actress na babagayan ng role ni Jillian.
The supporting actors are of course, undeniably good. Gabby Concepcion and Cherie Gil yun e. Haha. :)
Let;s go naman to the technical aspects. Photography is maganda of course. But I would like to commend the musical scoring. Yes, this is the best part of the film for me. Knowing the musical scorer, Mr. Jessie Lasaten, iba ito sa musical scores na nagawa niya for Film & TV. :)
And of course, the story. Okay ang story, but then this is the love story that you will never wish na mangyari sa'yo. Ako kinilabutan talaga ako kasi I did not expect na ganoon ka-tragic. And the first part was nakakakilig but scary at the same time. Haha. Hahaha. Pero ang pinaka ayoko namang mangyari saken was the secret-tragic part. Nakakaloka siya. :)
Anyhow, it's still a good movie to watch. Maiiyak ka, matatawa ka. :)

Movie Review: Sosy Problems
At mahilig ako sa mga ganitong klaseng movie (Desperadas, medyo hawig BUT it's different ha.)
Their main problem is saving their favorite place to hangout, ang Polo Club, na nabili na ni Bernice (Mylene Dizon), dating mahirap na empleyado ng club na yumaman at nabili ang Club para gawing isang mall, or as they call it, 'Yaya Mall' while fighting with their own problems.
Halos lahat ng movies na napanuod ko ay boring ang umpisa, yes, kahit No Other Woman, A Secret Affair (na super favorite ko), or kahit na anong movie, nabo-bore na ako sa umpisa. BUT. Sosy Problems is an exception...well maybe kasi di ko naman talaga naumpisahan sa sinehan ang film. BUT inulit ko siya, and medyo kinalahati ko ang movie before I left the moviehouse. Pero hindi talaga ako na-bore sa umpisa. :)
Infairness sa lahat ng movies na napanuod ko this year, all the supporting stars are very good, including this film na ang supporting cast ay sina Agot Isidro, Mylene Dizon, Maritoni Fernandez, Tim Yap, Ruffa Gutierrez, Johnny Revilla, Ricky Davao and Miss Cherie Gil, most especially Agot and Cherie.
My most favorite part of the film would be the part na nasa province sila, lahat ng nakakatawa, andun! Most especially the 'pilapil' part. Haha! That was the most hilarious part talaga. :)
That you should think of others' feelings, that you should not pretend to be rich in order to fit in, and that real friendship is not measured by richness or things you wear. :)
The Best Actress for me in the film would be Rhian Ramos. Her star really shined the brightest. Maybe because parang siya rin ang pinakabida but no, magaling talaga ang pagbibigay buhay niya kay Lizzie, lalo na sa pagsasabi niya ng 'Ermehgerd'. Haha! Panalo! :) And no worst actress naman, pero in some parts, medyo OA lang ng konti si Tim Yap pero I don't care, crush ko siya! Haha! Lol. Pero ang crush ko talaga dito, si Mikael Daez, kahit medyo short ang role niya, nabigyan naman niya ng justice, and he was so hot. Haha! The best supporting actress naman is for Agot Isidro and Cherie Gil. Nakakatuwa ang mga patalbugan nila! Haha!
This film is an unexpected film from GMA Films, 'cause as we all know, wag na nating ideny, bihira silang gumawa ng mas magaganda pang films talaga. But this one, this could be the start of their reinvention. Maganda talaga siya, kahit cinematography eh bongga. I love GMA Films for creating this movie.
WORTH IT. :)

Movie Review: Every Breath U Take.
Last Saturday, I watched Every Breathe U Take sa SM Southmall and I paid 160 pesos. And in this critique, malalaman natin kung worth it ba ang binayad ko. :) HAHA!
Well. :) AS IN. Kase as in parang Corazon, di ko namn masyadong plinlano na manuod nito nung umpisa kung di lang dahil kay Angelica Panganiban at sa most favorite kong director na si Direk Mae Czarina Cruz. :)
If I can describe it in 3 words: It's funny, lovely and romantic.
HAHA!
Leo: YOU'RE SO GULLIBLE! (Galit na galit)
Majoy: (umiiyak...pinunasan ang mata) Ano ba yung gullible? :(
HAHAHA! Wala lang natawa lang ako dun. Anyway, eto na, the casts and comments!
Angelica Panganiban as Majoy - WINNER! :)
Piolo Pascual as Leo - Di ako poging pogi kay Piolo, but because of this movie, CRUSH KO NA SIYA! HAHAHA! At nakakatuwa sobra! :)
Well the cast talaga is good. Nakakatawa si Wendy Valdez and Smokey Manaloto. Si Ryan Bang lang ang di ko talaga type kasi naiirita ako on the way he speaks but definitely he improved. :)
At ang story? NAKO COMPLETE TALAGA! Pag gawa talaga ng Star Cinema bongga. At nako, tandem pa ito ng gumawa ng Catch Me, I'm In Love! :)
To Direk Mae Cruz, pag nabasa niyo to, ang saya ko na. I am very vocal naman that Direk Mae is really one of my favorites (Maging Sino Ka Man, Magkaribal ang mga palabas niya oh, ang dalawang ultimate favorite shows ko, pag di ko rin siya naging favorite, KALOKOHAN NA! At ang ganda ng Babe I Love You at Catch Me I'm In Love ha!) and one of my inspirations and why I really want to have a career in this business. And lalo pa akong nainspire. :)
Over-all, the movie is really WORTH-WATCHING! So kung gusto niyong kiligin at tumawa, nood na!

Movie Review: Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang
Scary...Epic...Lovely.
That's how I can describe Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang.
When I watched it earlier, I had doubts. Because I don't know if I will enjoy it or what. But it's good that I watched it. This movie is entirely different from the other horror movies produced in the Philippines. It's not pure horror, there's a mix with love story, culture, and life lessons.
The story is simply amazing. The first part was just about Corazon and Daniel's struggle in having a baby. And Corazon prayed for 2 weeks sa bundok, mag-isa and quiet! So scary.
:)) Sobrang napakagaling and all. :) Wala akong masabi. She deserves it. Dapat may award siya dito. :) She is really the star of this movie!
DEREK RAMSAY - One hot guy. And his breakdown scenes were good as well.
MON CONFIADO - Magaling magpatawa. Nakakalurkey! :))
TETCHIE AGBAYANI - Sana hinabaan ang role niya dahil ang galing niya.
And sa iba. Okay din naman. :) This movie is really good talaga. I swear, bago niyo panuorin yung mga Hollywood movies or whatever, panuorin niyo 'tong Corazon. :) The movie's so lovely. Napakagaling. From Love Story to Horror to Love Story pa din! And to Direk Richard V. Somes, saludong saludo ako sa'yo. :))

Teleserye Review: Mundo Man Ay Magunaw
This January, madaming shows ang nag premiere. Walang Hanggan, Legacy, Lumayo Ka Man Sa Akin, E-boy.
This was actually a remake from the 1990 movie, starring Sheryl Cruz, Jennifer Sevilla and Romnick Sarmienta, with Leroy Salvador as director, and Salvador Royales as creator. With Eula Valdes, Sylvia Sanchez, Allan Paule and Tessie Tomas. And now directed by Jeffrey Jeturian and Rechie del Carmen.
January 30 nagstart yung soap na to. Originally, this will be aired at 2:45 PM sa Kapamilya Gold kapalit ng Heartstrings, pero dahil mamaalam na ang Happy Yipee Yehey sa ere at mamahinga pansamantala ang showtime that week, nilagay to sa 11:30AM slot. Pero after a week, inilagay na ito sa 2:30 PM.
Well, the pilot episode was really promising, napakaglossy ng paggawa. Jodi playing the young Eula Valdes was really good, it seemed like hindi siya special participation kundi pag-aari niya talaga ang show. Katya Santos as young Sylvia Sanchez also did a great job, as well as James Blanco and Christopher Roxas. Dito din sa show na to nagustuhan ko si Empress. Napakacute ng role niya, very bubbly, humurous and driven. Nikki Gil is an effective maldita, and hindi siya basta maldita, marami siyang dahilan. And nakakatuwa ang pagkakasampal niya kay Empress and yung pagkakadeliver niya ng "WRONG! You will never be, one of US!" and yung isang scene, nakakatawa siya. "*sampal* That is for flirting with my boyfriend. *sampal ulit* That is for illegal possession of ugly shoes!" Grabe ang benta lang. Ejay Falcon in this soap looks so gwapo. Ngayon mukha talaga siyang knight in shining armor. Affected din ako kay Eula Valdes dito, napakagaling niya, ramdam mo talaga yung pangungulila mo bilang isang ina! :)
Actually, ito yung teleseryeng never pa akong nakamiss ng episode. Yes I have classes, pero nagkataong wala akong pasok ng 30. At nalate ako nung February 1! 11:30 dapat ako umaalis pero nanuod muna ako nito. HAHA!
Napakaglossy! Basta Star Cinema may gawa, halatang pinaghandaan at hindi minadali. :)
Sana ituloy tuloy nitong soap na 'to ang kabonggahan niya. :) At sana di maapektuhan to ng ratings, kung mababa, as long as maganda, tuloy tuloy lang, wag sisibakin sa ere at madaliin ang pagtatapos. :))

Movie Review: No Other Woman
And that's none other than No Other Woman. The movie stars Cristine Reyes, Derek Ramsay and Anne Curtis. The story was conceptualized by Keiko Aquino (writer of Babaeng Hampaslupa) and the screenplay was written by Kriz Gazmen (creative producer of I Love You Goodbye) and Jay Fernando (headwriter of Magkaribal). The film was directed by none other than Ruel Santos Bayani (director of movie Paano Na Kaya, and TV Shows Iisa Pa Lamang and Budoy). With the team that created the movie, pretty sure that it is a sure hit.
Well, hindi nga ako nagkakamali, dahil sobrang hit nga siya and it was the 2nd highest top grossing film of 2011! :) And I am very proud that I am part of that success dahil nanuod ako kahit last minute.
For my own review, ang galing ng twist ng kwento. :)
Everyone in the movie was good! Even the extras. Carmi Martin as Cristine's mother is really a comic relief pero may lesson ka na matutunan sa kanya. Anne Curtis played the best mistress ever! And I love her, kahit na siya ang kabit, kakaawaan mo pa din siya. Derek Ramsay is also good, dito ko siya talaga nakitaan ng galing. And Cristine Reyes was a revelation. Tamang tama ang pagkakanominate ng Eva Fonda internationally, and she deserves Reputasyon.
Here are some of the lines na talagang tumatak sa akin!
"Kung ahas ka, mas ahas ako! Tahimik lang ako, pero pag kinanti, nanunuklaw!" -Babygirl dela Costa (Carmi Martin)
"I am not your mistress. A woman only becomes a mistress when there is emotional involvement. At wala akong balak mainlove sayo." -Kara Zalderiaga (Anne Curtis)
"No consequences. No pressure. Just shut up, and kiss me, and don't you dare fall in love with me." -Kara Zalderiaga (Anne Curtis)
"Kapag galing sa makating dikya, nagmamarka!" -Babygirl dela Costa (Carmi Martin)
-Babygirl dela Costa (Carmi Martin)
"Babygirl: Nakikita mo ba yang sarili mo? Ipack-up mo na yang Lucy Torres mo! Ilabas mo na si Gretchen Baretto! Naaalala mo yung sinabi niya sa Magkaribal? You want war, I'll give you war!
Heredera? Chaka ano ba mas mahirap kalaban? Yung putang mahirap o putang mayaman?
Babygirl: Pare-parehong puta lang yun! Yung mayaman original ang Hermes! Yung mahirap binili sa Greenhills! Yun lang yun!" -Charmaine Escaler (Cristine Reyes) and Babygirl Dela Costa (Carmi Martin)
"We are just to consenting adults having fun, there's no emotional attachment." -Kara Zalderiaga
Charmaine: What a coincidence? Siguro naman sa kulay lang tayo pareho.
Kara: You know that there's another thing we have in common...the bag.
"Naniniwala ako na the best things in life are free...like love!" -Charmaine Escaler
Charmaine: Why don't you have dinner with us tonight. To return the favor of bringing me home. pathank you ko na din dahil kinuha mo asawa ko.
Kara: I'm sorry?
Kara: You have a very nice home.
Kara: Is there anything I can do, anything I can do to help you?
Kara: Excuse me?!
Charmaine: Joke lang! Natakot ka ba? Sorry ha. Medyo off ang humor ko lately.
"Mababaliw siguro ako pag nalaman kong may babae siya, baka mapatay ko yung kabet, silang dalawa actaually.."-Charmaine Escaler
Kara: I thought she was going to stab me with that cheap steak knife!
Ricci Chan: Of course it was a scene from the cheap teleserye!
Kara: Kayo, anong gagawin ninyo, if the only man that you love, is unfortunately married?! I am not gonna give up Ram without putting up a goddamn fight! Ugh!
Kara: Are you here to make a scene?
Cha: Only if you're having an affair with my husband, so are you?
Kara: Is that why you're here? Para hulihin kami? Well if you're expecting some cheap catfight, it's not happening.
Kara: Is that so?
And just so you know, Yes, I enjoyed your husband, And I'm sure the feeling is mutual. You can call me anything you want, a snake, a bitch, other woman, but I will never be a pathetic boring housewife!
HAHA! :))
